Well I have been just terrible with keeping my website updated! But here we are, spring has sprung, now is the time for cleaning, organizing, and prioritizing! It's about time that I make this site one of my top priorities, as showcasing my art and growing as an artist is so important to me. The past year has been crazy in the best possible way. I've been busy with work, with exploring Hoboken and NYC, and with making new sculptures and showing in galleries! Here's the highlight reel since my last post: HOB'ART Being a part of hob'art cooperative gallery in Hoboken has been such an incredible experience. I get to showcase my work in our gallery and join in group shows around town and in the city, I have met so many kind and talented fellow artists, and I have even taken on the position as secretary for the group. I feel so lucky to be a part of such a group, to do all that I can to help the group grow, and to work with such passionate and skilled people! I had a dual show over the summer with artist Miriam Untoria, who makes breathtaking paintings and incredible mixed media pieces. I had friends and family come out to the show--I am constantly amazed and humbled by the support and love that these beautiful people show me! Thank you all so much! Many hob'art artists participated in a group show at Viridian gallery in Chelsea (my first NYC show!) This has to have been one of my favorite moments of the past year! To be able to show my work at a gallery in Chelsea was a dream come true. All of the artists worked tirelessly to get this show to happen to put together a gorgeous mix of art. I have several hob'art shows coming up this year--the next one being THIS WEEKEND! Come out Saturday from 6 - 8 for what is sure to be a wonderful night, full of art, good company and of course wine ;) FOUND AGENCY RAW Artists launched an agency arm last year--FOUND Agency! This links up RAW artists with companies, clients, etc who are looking for some original art, be it a mural, a logo, or in my case--a sculpture! I was booked through FOUND to design and create a sculpture for an office in southern New Jersey. This was one of the more incredible experiences I've had! I was given a few key words and phrases to base my design off of, came up with a few simple sketches and was ready to go! I had three days to complete a carving--easily the fastest I have ever worked--and did the whole thing in the conference room of a large office building! Picture it, all of those people working at their desks, with me in the conference room chiseling away, dancing around to Black Dog, and tracking plaster dust all throughout the building. WHAT A LIFE! The people who worked in the office would come in and out of the conference room to observe and ask questions throughout the entire process. It was incredible to be able to work full time, 9 - 5, for several days on my sculpture. I'll never forget how sore I was after day one. Can't afford a fancy gym membership and personal trainer? Get yourself a hunk of plaster and some chisels ;) On the fourth day I presented my sculpture to the office. There was a nice breakfast spread to entice people to come and listen to me ramble on about my piece, and everyone was so kind and curious about my experience, my sculpture, my inspiration and my process! ROIG GALLERY I try to make sure to check NYFA classifieds as often as possible to check for new opportunities to exhibit and create. Once day while browsing through the Call For Artists I saw a posting for a group show in Hoboken...at a gallery just two blocks from me! I quickly got in touch with the owners of the gallery, Ricardo and Michelle Roig (both incredibly gifted artists) and was booked to show with their 12 x 12 show! All of the artists created pieces that are 12"x12" (or in my case, 12"x12"x12"!) commemorating the Mile Square City! The gallery is gorgeous and right on first street in Hoboken. My sculptures are placed right in the window so all of the foot traffic to the path means there are so many eyes on my sculptures! Both Ricardo and Michelle were so kind and supportive, and I hope that this group show is the beginning of a long relationship of working and showing together! This show was everything that an art show should be--a group of artists from all over, exhibiting work in a variety of styles of mediums, celebrating through a reception, an after party, and even an AFTER after party ;) The work is still up at Roig Gallery, 252 First St, through May 14th! Be sure to check it out! So I am going to try to keep this blog updated, to post about shows BEFORE they happen and record my experiences shortly after :) but just in case I slack off... be sure to follow my Instagram for information about upcoming shows, progress shots of new pieces, and pictures of puppies ;D

Last month I joined the hob'art co-operative gallery, an artist group based in Hoboken NJ! It has already been a wonderful experience to be a part of this group. I had the chance to display one of my sculptures in the group show "The Women in Our Lives" at the hob'art gallery through the month of March. Hob'art has its own gallery in the Monroe Center in Hoboken, and they often exhibit work outside of the gallery--I first found out about the group when they had an exhibition at the coffee shop Black Rail! Hob'art is always doing something, whether it is an exhibition, artist talks, book circles...the list goes on! I will be sure to post more about the hob'art co-operative gallery in the near future, so stay tuned. In the meantime, go to the hob'art website to read more about the gallery and the artists! http://hob-art.org/
RAW Artist video interviews are finally here! These videos are thanks to RAW videographer GianCarlo Fernandez (http://www.renaissancegian.com) They're part of the deal with being a RAW Artist, just another of a million awesome parts of the RAW organization! Watch mine below, and go here to check out the other videos from RAW Jersey presents Visionary: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLpIUe_p9ff5Mk45QxxeSVCmyNINwbnUy9 RAW Jersey's first show of 2015 was AMAZING. I am so happy and honored to have been a part of it! From incredible live performances from bands including El Americano and The Rooftop, to fashion shows and make-up artists, to painters, metal designers, illustrators and sculptors, this was a night jam packed with ART! I have to say I was very lucky to have moved to Hoboken just weeks before the show -- it was just a few short walking trips to the club to set up my sculptures (with the help of my amazing mom, of course!). I wound up with a great big spot on the second floor to showcase my work. I had time after setting up to check out all of the other amazing artwork that filled Reign nightclub, and good thing--once the doors opened at 8 the place was PACKED! I was lucky to have my beautiful family and friends come out to support me at the show (and extra lucky that a few stayed after to help me break down my set up! Haha!) I had a wonderful night, and I hope everyone who made the trip out did too! LOVE YOU GUYS :) I also got some fancy photos by RAW Jersey photographer Kenneth Arcara (www.kenarcara.com) HUGE shout out to RAW Jersey's showcase director, Meredith! She made sure it was an amazing night for everyone involved. And of course, hats off to all of the participating artists! I hope to cross paths with you all in future shows :D
If you're an emerging artist, make sure you check out www.rawartists.org to see how YOU can get involved! It has been an awesome experience! Main Artery's pop-up art show at Bar 46 was a BLAST! This show was very different for me, as I displayed mostly 2D work. The prep was crazy -- digging through my portfolios for my best drawings, getting photos printed, framing for HOURS! I went a little overboard and brought a lot of work, but lucked out when one artist didn't show so I got two tables :) and FILLED them! I met some incredibly talented artists, had a blast with my family and friends who made it out to the event, and made a few sales--but the best part of the night by far was the live painting. There was a huge canvas set up and all of the artists went up to paint throughout the evening. It was awesome to paint with these artists, to build off of their work and have them build off of mine! The end result was a tremendously cool and wonderfully weird collaboration from this group of local artists!
I've been booked for another upcoming show!!
This one is a pop-up art show by Main Artery at Bar 46 in Hackettstown, NJ on Saturday, December 13! I'm so excited to get into a show that is so close to home--this means that more of my family and friends will be able to attend! This pop-up art show is another that has a lot of different artists set up in one venue for one night. The artwork will be for sale, and so close the holidays--what better gift to give a loved one than a one of a kind sculpture or painting, AM I RIGHT? ;) The show is from 8 - 11 pm, there will be music and art and great times! Great news--Raw Jersey is BACK!!!!!!
They've hired a new director and are starting shows again in January with VISIONARY. I will be a part of this showcase and could not be more excited! The show will be at the Reign nightclub in Hoboken on January 15th. Tickets are $15 in advance, and you can go to www.rawartists.org/katieduffymcgeehin to buy your ticket that will go directly to supporting me! The showcase has already booked a lot of incredible artists, ranging from painters, dancers, make-up artists, fashion designers and more! It's going to be an amazing night. Hope to see you there :) I am officially booked for a RAW showcase!!!!
I have been talking to the NJ Showcase Director for RAW for a few months now, trying to find a show that will work for me. I will be a part of the showcase RAW: Jersey presents AXIS, in Hoboken on October 23rd! Mark your calendars! For anyone who hasn't heard about RAW yet, it is an amazing worldwide indie arts organization. It showcases artists who are in the first ten years of their artistic careers, giving them a chance to be seen and to make connections with artists and art lovers all around the world! Each showcase includes visual arts, music, photography, fashion, hair and make-up, film, and performing arts. Showcases are held in over 60 locations WORLDWIDE! For more information, check out their website: http://www.rawartists.org/about/what-is-raw I am so honored and excited to be a part of such an amazing organization. I will post more about the event closer to the date, and will be sure to post all about my experience after the showcase! Stay tuned! ;) ****EDIT: Unfortunately, this show has been cancelled due to the RAW Jersey showcase director quitting. Showcases should resume once they find a replacement, which I have been told should be early next year! I'm pretty bummed, but I guess this just means I will have even more art to show when the next showcase comes around. I'll keep you posted! xx I'm more excited than a kid in a candy store right now peeps, because yesterday I went on a little shopping spree at Lowe's!!! I've always used the tools from my school's studio, but now that I'm an ADULT I went out and bought a bunch of tools for myself... I am most excited about a brand new chisel set that I bought :D it's a REAL beaut! I'll be working on setting up my own little studio here at home, and will be busting out some new sculptures soon... So check back soon for photos and updates! I am officially ready to "GET TO WORK MISTER"! On June 6th, 2014, the Recreation and Parks Department of Greenville, NC hosted an unveiling ceremony for the public art made for the Dream Park on Chestnut Street. This included two STUNNING mosaic benches made by the wonderful and talented Aisling Millar-McDonald and my (super fly!) sculpture, "Spread Your Wings". The ceremony was perfect! It was a beautiful day, with great company and delicious snow cones provided by the city! One of my favorite moments of the day has to be when a large group of kids from the community showed up (a lot of whom I had taught during my internship!) and they were so excited to see my sculpture. The park, equipped with everything from trees to climb to a splash point/water park, is an amazing addition to the community. I am honored to have been a part of it! I am so lucky to have such an amazing family, who came from all over to support me for the unveiling. I had family come to Greenville all the way from South Carolina, Delaware, New Jersey, Philly, Connecticut, and Rhode Island! I LOVE YOU ALL, you beautiful people!!!!! We had a fun photo shoot on my sculpture, everyone taking turns spreading their wings :) We even made it on the front page of the Daily Reflector in Greenville. Anyone who finds themselves in or around Greenville, NC, go to the Dream Park and snap a few shots yourself! #SPREADYOURWINGS Check out the Daily Reflector article here: http://www.greenvillenc.gov/departments/rec_parks_dept/information/default.aspx?id=22500 |
